I bet this year are most probably Natalie Portman's year. Since the award season everyone is buzzing about the Best Actress Academy Award Winner whether her role in Black Swan is the best yet, her face all over on the noted magazines and yeah she is the most stylish 'preggers' right now. Her role in No Strings Attached are a bit different compare to other movies she acted. But seriously? Ashton Kutcher? He was the most wanted actor yeah, once upon a time ago and I just don't get it why he should be pair with gorgeous Natalie Portman. Both of them returns to the romantic comedy genre with a twist on the ‘no strings’ relationship. No Strings Attached doesn’t have many surprises, but it is pleasant. It adheres to the age-old premise of two platonic friends suddenly discovering they can be “more” than friends. How many times have we seen this setup or a slight variation of it? Make a list of romantic comedies and take your pick - odds are one of them follows this plot in one form or another.
No Strings Attached adalah lakonan Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Cary Elwes and Lake Bell. Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) are two friends who bump into each other every five to ten years. They first meet at summer camp, where Adam asks Emma for sexual favors. They reunite in college and again in their 20s, when Emma is a doctor and Adam an aspiring television writer. With little time or interest in pursuing a relationship, they decide to become sex friends. There are ground rules: no fighting, no jealousy and no snuggling. They also can’t expect anything from each other. In other words, there are no strings attached.
Portman is amazingly good and actually can see the different side of her. I felt her passion in the job she held as an MD in a hectic ER and how she truly felt when she ultimately saw the value of the relationship she was toying with. Kutcher I can’t say the same for. He is so dull and super duper boring. All his roles are the same (Just Married, The Killers, Valentine's Day) like he just being him not other character. Please lord, I am super bored with him or mayhe he is not my taste at all. Lake Bell takes a great turn as a speedy, obsessed co-producer on the show. Hyper, attune, sensitive and womanly – she put together a great package for the character.
The scene where Emma and Adam fights during their date is lame. The movie is focusing too much on Emma dealing with Adam about her needs on sex only and no relationship but at the same time, they are like insanely in love. and for sure you can expect them will fall in love madly in the end. Cliche much? What makes this movie you will think it is fun, if you’re a fan of Portman you’ll find her on display in all her glory. No Strings Attached is a decent romantic comedy for a curl up on the coach movie night, but not necessarily for you to run to the nearest cinema. This film would be perfect for a Friday night on the couch.
