The Three Musketeers Movie Review

I can say this for The Three Musketeers: out of the numerous adaptations of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel, it surprised me by sticking relatively close to the original story. Much to my surprise, it turns out that the first half of the movie is totally competent (and even fun!), and it’s not until the latter half when things go off the rails.

The Three Musketeers adalah lakonan Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Matthew MacFayden, Luke Evans, Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom and Juno Temple. Young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) leaves his rural life to travel to Paris to become one of the famous Musketeers. Once there, through a series of misadventures, he ends up in separate duels with the three most famous of the Musketeers; Porthos (Ray Stevenson), Athos (Matthew MacFayden), and Aramis (Luke Evans). Before they can start, they end up battling a horde of guards working for the sinister Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz).

It sets into motion their efforts to prevent war between England and France by recovering a stolen necklace. It’s all there — the stolen necklace, Milday De Winter (Milla Jovovich), Queen Anne (Juno Temple), D’Artagnan’s love interest, and the Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom). Another reason this movie is better than it should be is some fantastic casting. Say what you will about the rest of this movie, but the casting director knocked this one out of the park. Logan Lerman is excellent as the cocksure D’Artagnan.Matthew Macfayden plays the jilted Athos with style, leading the group with a straight face through the film’s wildly anachronistic twists and turns.

Orlando Bloom’s ridiculous haircut makes more of an impression than the actor himself in this movie, but he’s still fun to watch as the dapper and deceptive Duke of Buckingham even Milla Jovovich is sufficiently seductive and well-equipped to handle the action elements of her role as Milady de Winter, the double-crossing assassin and Athos’s former love interest.

I was actually shocked at how much I liked the first half of this movie. The sword fight sequences are spectacularly choreographed, and at no point does it ever feel like a bunch of loosely trained actors swinging fake swords around.

Despite the dreary second half, I actually liked this movie overall. It’s far better than the “so bad, it’s good” I’d initially hoped for, and if you can sit back and have fun with it, you’re sure to be entertained.

Dream House Movie Review

Sometimes a house retains memories, so they say, or at least this Movie will have you believe it! Dream House is a psychological drama with a mystery and horror flare. Well, at least it’s trying to be. Occasionally, given the lowered expectations, these flicks can prove to be pleasant surprises, but Dream House is not one of those cases.

Dream House adalah lakonan Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Taylor Geare and Claire Geare. book editor Will Atenton (Daniel Craig) decides to retire from his lush Manhattan post at GPH Publishing in order to write a novel and spend more time at home with his wife Libby (Rachel Weisz) and his two young daughters Trish (Taylor Geare) and Dee Dee (Claire Geare). They've recently bought a home in suburban Connecticut, but upon receiving a cold reception from neighbors and finding random trespassers on their property, they learn that the house had been the site of a murder.

While he continues poking around, everyone is being very vague on what happened. And that includes his curious neighbor across the street in Ann (Naomi Watts). One can see Ann wants to tell Will something yet she keeps their rare interactions brief. Eventually Will sees the figure that has been lurking around his home and Libby becomes concerned about what actions her husband will take.

Although this starts out as a possible haunting tale, the story slowly transitions into thriller mode once the veil has been lifted on what is really going on halfway through. This twist is usually reserved for the climatic moment but the script made a bold move in revealing its hand at this point. By doing so, there is a natural intrigue on how the second half of this straight-up psychological mystery will pan out.

On investigating the murders, Daniel Craig visits the institution that held Peter Ward, the husband who murdered his family, and is told that he stayed there for five years. Suddenly he realises that the video showing Peter when he was an inmate, is actually Will Atenton himself!

So, what's going on? It seems this is where the whole thing starts to get very spooky! How can Will and Peter be the same person? Well, evidently they can! It seems that Peter is held for the murders, as there wasn't any other suspect at the time.

Where did it all go wrong? Dream House has an intriguing concept, a stellar cast (not only Craig and Weisz, but also Naomi Watts) and a renowned director in Jim Sheridan, but somehow it ends up a dull, overly sentimental tale lacking the requisite thrills or dramatic weight. Overall, Dream House combines a few suspense genre tools with a couple of twists. Once the story unveils the hook, the rest of film struggles to keep the entertainment and interest levels from dipping.

Abduction Movie Review

Twilight alumnus Taylor Lautner makes his debut as a leading man in a film tailor-made for him. Abduction puts Lautner in motion and never goes wrong as long as he remains in motion. I just love Lily Collins in the movie as the leading actress. She is pretty, awesome and have a bright future in acting. We will see that in three years time. Although I totally against Twilight but Abduction really caught my eyes and attention to watch it until end. Surprisingly it was amazingly directed and good storyline.

Abduction adalah lakonan Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, Alfred Molina, Michael Nyquist, Sigourney Weaver and Maria Bello. The buff teen werewolf of "Twilight" plays a young man who has his world upended and finds himself on the run when enemy agents attack his home and the people he knew as his parents aren't who they say they are. In the opening minutes, we meet Nathan (Lautner), a studly wrestler in high school, constantly tested by his strict and martial dad ( Jason Isaacs), nurtured by his more understanding mom (Maria Bello).

But a class project with his elusive, unavailable neighbor (Lily Collins) sends them to a missing-children website. That's where they find a photo of toddler Nathan, reported as missing. And in asking about that, the teens trigger an explosion of revelations about Nathan's past and a desperate escape that sends boy and girl on the lam, with no idea of who is after them or whom they can trust.

While trying to figure out his true identity, CIA agents and assassins begin targeting Nathan, and he is forced to go on the run. He brings Karen with him, as her parents are away on vacation, and he begins to feel that he can best protect her. Nathan and Karen race to elude the agents and assassins, while aiming to solve the mystery behind his elusive biological parents.

The action thriller had an interesting concept, making a teenager the main protagonist who’s determined to discover the truth about his true family and background while protecting those he loves, the back-story isn’t extremely detailed. It’s hard to relate to Nathan, as there’s no in-depth information about his background, including why he felt he couldn’t fit in with anyone, or exactly why the assassins are after him.

Given that ‘Abduction’ is Lautner’s first major role leading outside of the ‘Twilight’ series, and the predictability of the thriller’s plot-line, the actor still did well with the material he was given. There is a good fight scene set inside the tight quarters of a train compartment that is well orchestrated and capped off by a surprisingly vicious payoff. But all of "Abduction" rests on the buff shoulders of Lautner, who is simply green and inexperienced to carry a movie on his own. Lautner does most of his stunts, some of which are potentially dangerous, and there's no denying he's a charismatic actor.

With a plot that most adults will stay a step or two ahead of, "Abduction" isn't going to challenge anybody who has seen more than one on-the-lam picture. But Lautner doesn't embarrass himself. In my point of view, Abduction is kinda a good movie for me. Not to say great but worth to watch. I don't feel that I'm wasting RM14 for a crap movie but instead I felt satisfied to watch some new and rising starts to lead a big budget movie. Congratulation to future A-list Hollywood actors; Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins.

Fright Night Movie Review

Collin Farrel is one hot piece of vampire! Extremely hot. It took over twenty-years, but this generation of horror fans finally have a cult product that they can call their own. Even though it comes in the form of a respectful remake.Fright Night, the 105 minute remake of the 1985 classic, is pitch-perfect in so many ways.

Fright Night adalah lakonan Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, David Tennant and Imogen Poots. Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin) has a problem. The good looking guy (Colin Farrell) who just moved in next door has a thing for his divorced mom (Toni Collette). And also for his girlfriend (Imogen Poots).Which would be bad enough, but it turns out the thing Jerry has for them is a taste for their blood, because he is actually a 400-year-old vampire and he's just found the one place where a drifter who sleeps all day and stays up all night won't be considered out of the ordinary: Las Vegas.

Evil attempts to reach out to Charley when several of his classmates have gone missing. Charley is showing very little interest though, until Evil spastically tells him that a vampire is the source of the problem. A vampire, who just happens to be Charley’s next door neighbor, Jerry. Charley eventually dismisses his former best friend’s theories and ends up meeting Jerry while the guy is flirting with his mom. He doesn’t make any assumptions, until he starts to pick-up on some quirks Jerry begins to show around him at night, based on what he knows from vampire lore.

Sensing that Charley may be on to him, Jerry decides to have a bit of fun with his prey and begins to torment Charley, and his friends, in order to keep his deadly secret. Without anyone to turn to, the only chance he has to is to seek out a famous magician in Peter (looking like Criss Angel and Russell Brand had a baby), who apparently is the go-to guy on the legend of vampires.

It helps that his film has been extremely well cast. Farrell has just the right mix of charisma and menace to portray a modern vampire, though for once he keeps a lot of his naturally screen-chewing tendencies to himself in favor of silently stalking his prey. It's an interesting and successful choice in a genre where the vampire is almost always the biggest ham in the room, using his giant teeth as an excuse to chew on every part of the set.

Since it is a teenage-focused horror film there is some subtext along the way about how people, and teenagers especially, focus too much on exterior perceptions to the detriment of their interpersonal relationships.

Overall, Fright Night is a killer vampire flick and an all-around loyal horror movie.Standing ovation for Colin Farrell by the way! He is the coolest and sexiest vampire of all time.

Contagion Movie Review

Despite its serious script and premise, Contagion is somehow able to retain a subtle element of “fun,” an admirable feat for a movie in which scores of people die in nearly every scene. Contagion is about movie people who sign receipts with a napkin covering the pen, who spray hand sanitizer on subway poles, who punch other people in the face when they don’t cover their sneeze. See, the film depicts a highly-infectious disease called MEV-1 that kills two people, then four people, then 16 people, then 25 million people, all in a matter of days.

An invisible, indiscriminate killer figuring us out faster than we can figure it out.Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow) flies home to Minneapolis after a business trip in Hong Kong. What appears to be a cold quickly deteriorates, and she does what big-name stars rarely do in the opening minutes of a film. She dies.But that’s just the beginning. What follows is a swift, thrilling exploration of the impact of a deadly virus on the world.

Her husband, played by Matt Damon, also loses his stepson to the virus before quarantining himself for most of the movie with his teenage daughter. Laurence Fishburne and Kate Winslet bring us inside the CDC; Marion Cotillard is a field doctor from the World Health Organization.As the movie keeps us abreast of its chronology (we see the captioning DAY 3 . . .DAY 12 . . . DAY 39 . . . in an ominous, red typeface), more and more people die as doctors struggle to find a vaccine for this new, elusive disease.

Still, with all its graphic mortality and (eventual) violence, the movie proves frightening on a psychological level more than anything else. That’s because this whole scenario is familiar to us and not just because of the dozens of other films based on a similar plot. We’ve all lived through the worry surrounding real-life outbreaks like SARS and the H1N1 virus of last year.

It’s cool to sit back and see Winslet run around as an epidemic intelligence service officer (whatever that means) or Cotillard as a World Health Organization rep. They’re actors of high stature who tend to star in award-winning dramas and don’t have to do movies like this for their careers. They rarely do, so it should be savored when they take a walk on the wild side.

It's a movie that predominately takes place in rooms with people talking, as a microscopic serial killer goes to work on the population outside those rooms. Its victims are largely faceless, and the ones given close-ups are given just enough dimension to justify the admission price. Contagion is also rip-roaring entertainment, worth to check it out and it's the first truly "grown-up" movie in quite a while.

Apollo 18 Movie Review

The movie is boring as hell, an endurance challenge for even the most forgiving audience. The film, simply, is a snore.

Apollo 18 adalah lakonan Warren Christie and Lloyd Owen. Yet another found footage movie, Apollo 18 claims to be leaked footage from a secret Moon mission. They land at the Moon’s south pole and quickly discover the Russians have already been there – and the Russians are dead.

What then should be an escalating series of scares and anxiety becomes a slowly deflating bore. The aliens they find on the surface of the Moon are pretty lame, and in order to fill out the movie to feature length one of the astronauts gets infected by them and go crazy. Or something.

The net effect looks like Paranormal Activity meets Alien, and of course the potential for a sequel is obvious. Sure, the trailers say they never went back.

The film is flaccid, with even the jump scares being so telegraphed that they barely register. The only tension in the movie is the audience trying to figure out the running time. One of the film’s worst mistakes is being found footage in the first place; this story makes no sense for the style, and Apollo 18 might have had a chance to work had the film been a standard narrative.

I would say that Apollo 18 was one of the worst movies of the year, but I know that I’m going to completely forget it even existed after this weekend.

Bridesmaids Movie Review

Bridesmaids is proof that comedy is not a mans world. Despite the trailers which could lead you to believe this is a chick flick; this film is for everyone and is hands down, the best comedy of the year so far. These ladies will do whatever it takes to get the whole audience doubling over, without playing into any of the usual cliches.

Bridesmaids adalah lakonan Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Rebel Wilson, Ellie Kemper and Jon Hamm. Annie (Kristin Wiig) has a hard life. She’s regularly sleeping with a man who kicks her out in the morning, has a terrible job as a jewelry saleswoman, is broke because her own business went out of business, and has a choice of having to continue living with two annoying British siblings or move back home with her mom. Amidst it all she has her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Lillian is the one stabilizing force in her life, but when Lillian gets engaged and asks her to be her maid of honor things start to change.

Everything seems to go wrong for her in the process, and she even finds herself at odds with Helen (Rose Byrne), a wealthy new friend of Lillian’s who desperately wants to be the maid of honor. It’s a fight to the chapel, and Annie’s not sure if she’ll manage to get Lillian there, or if their friendship will survive the journey.

Bridesmaids is a laugh riot. There are times that you are laughing so hard that you miss the next joke, which makes you want to see it again almost as soon as it’s over. Kristin Wiig has been given her first full on lead role, and she has run with it.There have been a lot of people saying that this is a female version of the Hangover. It’s nice to not only see such a powerful female lead but such a strong supporting cast of comedic women. Literally, every single one of these ladies pack a comedic punch that at some point in the movie will leave you gasping for breath.

There is no doubt that Bridesmaids will be a hit. It is all ready the best movie so far this year, and the best comedy in probably the last couple of years. This film was fun to watch and great pick if you’re looking to go to the theater and just have some fun.
