All The Love In The World

Hey readers!

Despite of long hours classes and stressful presentation, I managed to meet the girls for dinner. I was there to meet the bride-to-be Zahartinie for the very last time as a single and 'virgin' girl before she gets married next week. So soon!

Fatima and Ili Nadia was there to join us too. I had a beef lasagne and it's quiet delicious. Thanks girls for the nice catch up and memorable moments! and yeah, the brilliant Red Valvet too! Pretty amazing huh?

Rise of The Planet Apes Movie Review

Hey readers!

This rather sad prequel to the original Planet of the Apes is all about the sequence of events that led to the uprising of the apes. Oddly enough, it seems more human than the prior films.

Rise of The Planet Apes adalah lakonan James Franco, Freida Pinto, Tom Felton, John Lithgow and Andy Serkis. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the prequel to the 1968 classic, The Planet of the Apes. Rise tells the story of how it came to pass that our simian cousins skipped ahead of us on the evolutionary ladder. The story of Rise is told in such a way that it fits perfectly within the continuity of the original film.

Caesar the chimpanzee is saved by James Franco who plays a genetic scientist trying to come up with a cure for Alzheimer’s, the disease from which his father, played by John Lithgow, suffers. Lithgow was once a music teacher but now cannot even play the piano anymore. When Franco comes up with a cure that also improves the intelligence of apes, one of the apes wrecks the lab and Franco’s boss has all of the apes euthanized. However, Franco rescues baby Caesar and secretly raises him as Caesar has inherited the cure for Alzherimer’s from his mother. Any Serkis plays Caesar from the time he’s a baby until he’s an adult. Caesar doesn’t know he’s an ape until he’s 8 years old.

The human characters are the poorly developed characters in this movie picture. Franco really plays the only character who makes humans likeable. Tom Felton is an abusive zookeeper and isn’t much different than his Harry Potter character, Draco Malfoy. Oyelowo is rather one-dimensional. Freida Pinto plays the veterinarian with whom Franco is in love, but she does little more than look pretty. It’s the special effects that take center stage – they’re some of the best ever created.

Unlike the superheroes on the screen this summer, the apes really capture our hearts. Watching the prequel to the forty year old saga is emotional. Rise of the Planet of the Apes may not be my personal favorite film so far this year, but I do believe it's got the goods to be the first bona fide sci-fi blockbuster of the summer. Highly recommended.

I comment this movie (3) ★★only.

The Smurfs Movie Review

Hey readers!

One by one, the joyful entertainments of our youth have been dragged into the present, covered in a layer of pop-culture sass, and trotted out for our kids to “enjoy”. I wasn’t expecting The Smurfs to be any different, but was pleasantly surprised to find it highly entertaining, and even heartwarming. It’s a great family movie.

The Smurfs adalah lakonan Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara and Jayma Mays. Deep in an enchanted Belgian forest lies the small village of the Smurfs, tiny blue creatures who are each named for their unique personality trait or profession (Grouchy, Brainy, and so on). Despite the fact they seem to constantly get on each others’ nerves, they are so happy and pure in spirit that evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) wants to distill the essence of every last one of them into a magical liquid that will make him all-powerful.

When Clumsy (Anton Yelchin) accidentally leads Gargamel to the village, the Smurfs are forced to find cover. Clumsy and a few of his friends take a wrong turn and fall into a mysterious vortex which dumps them, and later Gargamel, straight into the middle of New York City. You know, as mysterious Belgian vortexes tend to do.

The wayward Smurfs are discovered and taken in by Patrick and Grace (Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays), a young couple expecting their first child. Patrick has just been promoted to VP Marketing at a cosmetics company, and has two days to create a killer ad campaign from scratch, an activity complicated by the arrival of the little blue people, who need help to escape Gargamel and return home.

The fish-out-of-water-in-NYC scenario is usually the kind of thing that destroys a concept, but a clever script and earnest performances keep things moving here. Harris is especially good, playing a nice-at-heart guy frustrated and confused by these strange visitors. His quiet moments with Papa Smurf (Jonathan Winters), discussing the joys and fears of parenting, nearly bring a lump to the throat.

There’s still a little of that annoying pop-culture sass (Look! Smurfs playing Guitar Hero!), but overall The Smurfs is a gentle, funny movie that the whole family can enjoy.

I comment this movie (3)★★only.

Final Destination 5 Movie Review

Hey readers!

It’s another Final Destination movie. This is one of Hollywood’s old standbys that’s ridden a pretty original idea into the ground–well not all the way into the ground. It still manages to be fun as long as you manage your expectations.

Final Destination 5 adalah lakonan C gred actors; Emma Bell, Nicholas D’Agosto, Miles Fisher and Arlen Escarpeta. The Final Destination formula is the same. Right before a major disaster — think plane crash, roller coaster, huge traffic accident — the protagonist has a vivid premonition of things to come. Right after he or she sees their own death they snap back to a point right before the disaster and warn their friends to get off of, or out of whatever, or wherever the disaster is about to strike.

When on his way with his coworkers to a company retreat, Sam Lawton (Nicholas D’Agosto) has a premonition that they bridge they are traveling across is going to collapse and kill them all. When he snaps back to, he realize what he just saw/dreamed, is starting to happen. Sam grabs his ex-girlfriend Molly (Emma Bell) and runs off the bus. Friends Peter (Miles Fisher), Candice (Ellen Wroe), Olivia (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Issac (P.J. Byrne), Nathan (Arlen Escarpeta) and boss Dennis (David Koechner) all follow and thus escape a horrible demise; cheating Death. Days after that one by one, the remaining coworkers die in mysterious accidents in the order Sam saw in his vision. Can they stay alive and really cheat death or will they all die?

This was extremely gory and violent. One of the more horrifying aspects of sitting through this film was not what is shown on screen but the fact that people were cheering at the violence and bloody deaths of the characters. Does anyone see anything else wrong in that or is it just me?

The visuals and effects work up the horror of the manner of dying and the film does manage to tease the viewers with multiple permutations and combinations to its death. The scene of the death of the gymnasts illustrates this best. A small loose screw from an AC duct above lies in wait for its victim, so does a loose performing rod nearby while a little gush of water is making its way to an open electrical wire. The audience, aware that death is inevitable, is at the edge of their seats wondering what will cause it. The way it finally happens is scientifically impossible, but macabre nonetheless.

The film ends on the plane where the first one had begun. And going by the looks of it, this particular film may have ended, but this - one of the most successful horror franchises from Hollywood - is far from its final destination.

I comment this movie (4) ★★only.

Horrible Bosses Movie Review

Hey readers!

The movie is extremely exaggerated for Hollywood entertainment purposes, but I’m sure there are some boss characteristics in the movie you can definitely identify with your boss. In fact, to make sure you can identify with the characters, the movie includes not only one but three bosses: a crazy psycho boss, a touchy-feely boss, and an incompetent boss.

Horrible Bosses adalah lakonan Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. The plot is simple. Jason Bateman works for slave-driver Kevin Spacey; Charlie Day is sexually harassed by his boss Jennifer Aniston; Jason Sudeikis finds his new boss, Colin Farrell, intolerable to work for. So, the three friend decide to kill each others’ bosses. The cast is excellent, and Jamie Foxx doesn’t even make the poster due to the lack of room for faces. Jason Bateman delivers most of the funniest lines for me.

As for the bosses; Kevin Spacey is terrific as the mean, nasty character and here is is having a ball and gets some great lines. Jennifer Aniston is filthy and scantily clad throughout. The real shame is that Colin Farrell doesn’t get nearly enough screen time or dialogue. I would liked to have seen a lot more of him in a cartoonish comedic role.

The movie is fun in a stupid sort of a way, just as you expect. The three leads have good funny man-chemistry together, and most of the humor of the movie happens as they stumble in and out of their bosses' houses looking for clues about their lives which may help them figure out how to kill or otherwise ruin them.

Horrible Bosses rewards the audience for their investment, paying dividends in laughs. There’s no better workout than a good, fun comedy that has you red-faced and breathing heavy for the majority of the film’s duration. The reason I called this an ‘average comedy’ is because, despite the stars and devilish premise, it never really goes beyond what it, and the actors, are capable of.This isn’t the absolute best comedy of 2011, but it certainly ranks in the top ten.

I comment this movie (3) ★★only.

Cowboys & Aliens Movie Review

Hey readers!

Cowboys & Aliens is a film I've been excited about seeing since the first trailer of it has been released. I've been following it very closely since the film's been announced, and I just got more and more excited about it as the release date approached. I'm a huge fan of both the sic-fi genre and the western genre, so mixing these two elements together just seemed like a great idea to me. Its Cowboys fighting off aliens!

Cowboys & Aliens adalah lakonan Danial Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell. The movie starts with Jake Lonergan (Danial Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford).

The acting was solid throughout, in my opinion; I was particularly impressed with Daniel Craig as Jake Lonergan, because I hadn't been sure I could see James Bond as a cowboy, and he does a great job. Olivia Wilde (Ella) was both beautiful and great in her role, and Sam Rockwell is always fun to watch up on the big screen. You can tell everyone gave a hundred percent.

It's safe to say that this film is more of a western than a sic-fi film, and that's what I really liked about it. There aren't many good westerns getting made these days and I think that's a shame. So when I see a solid film like Cowboys & Aliens I can't help but get excited about the possibilities of what can be done with this genre to give it a fresh new life. There was a good balance between the drama and action in the film, but if you're expecting non-stop action this movie won't give it to you.

Cowboys & Aliens was OK, but I also don't think it's a movie for everyone. It's a fun, entertaining film. It's definitely got space western written all over it. The cast is great, the special effects are fun, and the music is phenomenal.

I comment this movie (4) ★★only.
