Dinner for Schmucks Movie Review

Hey readers!

There is no other reason than because of Paul Rudd I watched Dinner for Schmucks. He is a truly cute, charming and slow kind of guy. I needed a good laugh and this film delivered in a gut-busting way. But do I like it or hate it? Trust me, Steve Carrel's character are annoying and stupid! I really have a headache when it comes to his character. I rasa macam nak tumbuk tumbuk je muka dia. But in real life, he is cute. Once you see him with a totally 'stupid' transformation you feel like want to punch him on his face. Truly annoying! Overall, this is another great comedy, and will regale us with even more idiot dinners filled with characters just as entertaining and full of stupidity.

Dinner for Schmucks adalah lakonan Steve Carrel, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Schaal and Jemaine Clement. Carrel is good at playing an idiot old man. I really annoyed with his character. Like, be real much? I adore another 'lembap' character Kristen Schaal. She always plays the dumb girl, with her facial expression but she's truly a charmer! I love her.Tim played by Paul Rudd is a mid-level financial executive, who acquires a negotiation over special novelty lamps with wealthy Swiss businessman Martin Mueller. When he manages to impress a group of suits working on the top floor, they invite him to their annual dinner for idiots (ex: they must bring a person who is idiot with weird/strange specialties). Yes, there is a prize for the most idiotic of their guests and the one who brings that idiot gets rewarded for their discovery of the evening’s entertainment. Of course, Tim wins. We already know he will because Barry is a super idiot.

Tim, who literally runs into Barry played by Steve Carrel with his Porsche on the day after he is told that in order to get the much wanted promotion at the film he works for he should bring an idiot to his snobby boss’s dinner party. Then the nightmares starts. Barry hobby is collecting dead mice, working some taxidermy magic and artistically posing and accessorizing the recycled rodents into dioramas from his pathetic life. Tim realizes he is the perfect loser for the dinner. That night, Barry shows up at Tim's apartment unannounced and create a lot of nightmares and bad news. Darla(who had a one-night stand with Tim years ago) and Barry get into a bar-styled fight, scaring Darla away. Darla is a stalker. Because of this Tim fights with his girlfriend, Julie. Then the issue between Tim and his girlfriend new interest, Vollard. Tim thinks that Julie might be having sex with Vollard after they fights. Barry is a fool and manages to wreck Tim’s love life.

During the dinner, Tim feel bad about what is the actual reason he bring Barry to the dinner.
Tim tells Barry everything and, after some encouragement, gets Barry to win, before causing his boss and fellow executives to reveal the truth. A guest reacts badly to the news and inadvertently causes chaos in the process, with Mueller losing his finger. In the end, Tim marries Julie; Barry gets in a relationship with Darla. It's not that Dinner for Schmucks isn't funny, but that the humor is less consistent than one might hope

I comment this movie (3) ★★only.

The Switch Movie Review

Hey readers!

I thought the movie was OK. Nothing special. One of those movies that you could just wait for on DVD, but the pirated one. It's been a while I don't go out for a movie. Blame the super busy last week. They are the reason why I can't step my foot on the cinema. So this weekend, Ass and I has planned to watch three movies for the whole weekend but we managed to watch two movies only. It's OK. At least I don't have a compile of movies that I haven't watch. Before continue reading my review on this movie, I should warn you guys there is no different at all, if you compare The Switch with other previous Jennifer Aniston's movies (Love Happens, Along Came Polly, Marley & Me, The Break-Up) It is just that different leading actor in the movie make a big differences. Pleaseeee... Jennifer Aniston I am just about done with all your movies. Overall the movie was described as a comedy drama with liberal amounts of romance, well I can add one new descriptor ‘a rubbish film’. And another thing, 200% expected.

The Switch adalah lakonan Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Patrick Wilson and Thomas Robinson. First of all casting Jason Bateman is a nice change. He's a bit older, more cynical and a nice change from the other leading men that have come lately, too bad they stuck with Jennifer Aniston as the leading female who brought as little as usual. Why there is a lot type of movie with the concept forty-something woman, single and wants to be pregnant so much? (The Back-Up Plan, The Kids Are Alright) The Switch is about Jennifer Aniston as Kassie, a forty-something year old New Yorker, single girl with a thriving career, financial stability and a deep longing to be a Mommy. She wants to get pregnant by insemination is her only way to procreate. With the services of handsome and charming sperm donor Roland played by Patrick Wilson she gets pregnant. But the truth was, Jason Bateman as Wally swaps his ‘sperms’ prior to inception and essentially hijacks her pregnancy. That time he was drunk and can't remember at all the next day. He doesn't realize that thing happening.

Seven years later, Kassie returns to New York with her son Sebastian who seemingly shares the same Wally's phobia. During that period, Sebastian and Wally develop their unknown biological father-son bond. At the same time, Kassie and Roland are dating. As their growth progresses, Wally discovers his true feelings for Kassie and the mind jarring recall of his ‘swap’ seven years ago. In the end, they realize both of them are not just a best friend but more than that like soul mate. In a straight male-female best friends, I'm sure most of them will fall in love in the end and get married. Most of it. This theory does appear in the movie. So should I say the movie was 100% expected and nothing new.

The Switch never flips on and the movie never really goes anywhere. You know from the first few minutes what's going to happen by the end of The Switch, and getting to that final reveal turns out not to be worth the wait. On a final note – if Aniston’s character was forty-something at the time of insemination, and Wally circles back to her 7 years later, just how old is she? Apparently fifty-something…and fabulous! Can you believe thatt???

I comment this movie (2)★★only.

Wall Street 2:Money Never Sleeps Movie Review

Hey readers!

Warning: I’m no money-expert. I know the economy sucks. I’ve heard of recession, even there is fashion recession but I cannot make brilliant comparisons in this film. I will review it based on my understanding. So I hope you guys understand it. Last two weeks I watched the sequel of Wall Street which was the original in 1987. This year, powerful Gordon Gekko has make a comeback. I have read the review on the original Wall Street, most of the commenter said The original Wall Street was edgier and courser. It lacked the family drama and was mostly about the corruption in high-finance. This time, the director want to put some the love and family drama into it. So it will look balance and real. Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps can be described as 'Money can't buy happiness'.

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps adalah lakonan Michael Douglas, Carey Mulligan, Shia LaBeouf, Frank Langella and Susan Sarandon. I have to say Michael Douglas is a powerful man. He really portrays a powerful and greedy Gordon Gekko. Well I have to say that I really admire businessman. Enough said. Shia LaBeouf portrays the intelligent but still a beginner in business/finance world with a bright future. I loved Carey Mulligan in An Education (2009) but here she was weak. The second movie opens with Gekko getting out of jail in October 2001 broke and alone. Gone are the swagger, the Armani suits, the white collared colored shirts, and the suspenders. All that’s left is an unshaven old man with nowhere to go – or so it seems. The movie than flashes forward 6 ½ years to June 2008 (right before the beginning of the global financial meltdown). Seven years later, the story of Jacob played by Shia LaBeouf and his girlfriend, Winnie played by Carey Mulligan.

Apparently Winnie is the daughter of Gordon Gekko. Gekko has become an author and a lecturer promoting his new book, "Is Greed Good?". Jake works at Keller Zabel Investments and tries to raise more money for a fusion research project. Jake is one of the firm’s top proprietary traders and the protégé of its managing director. Yet the entire time, we the audience, are two moves ahead of everyone in the film, since we’re still sitting here in 2010 dealing with the consequences of 2008’s financial crash. All the drama of the financial begins until the end. I really can't explain or review about the situation because I don't really understand the crisis. Later on, Gekko be friends with Jake. Gekko told him the real story between him and Winnie. Thus Gekko reveals his characteristic philosophy of life, where every deal that he makes in return for something is nothing but a trade. But Winnie doesn't know they met. There is a lot of financial and the causes of the global financial crisis explained, the rest of the movie is a hodge-podge of con games and payback. Which I don't really understand.

Later on with Jake's mother investment problem and his relationship problem with Winnie. Their relationship falls apart when Winnie has an account in Switzerland with 100 million dollars, Gekko told Jake could use that money to fund the research and save the company. But since Winnie never declared it, she could go to jail for tax evasion. Gekko tells Jake that he can embezzle it with his old contacts. Later on, Jake gets a call saying that the money never arrived. He goes to Gekko's apartment and finds it empty: he's gone. I enjoyed watching Gordon Gekko himself get back into the game. He started the movie with nothing but didn’t give up and came back strong. Then the financial drama continues and in the end, three of them reunites. Gordon Gekko teaches us all an important investment lesson. He quoted in the movie "Think positive, pal. When most people lose, they whine and quit. You’ve got to be there for the turns". This advice is excellent, not just for aspiring corporate raiders and hedge fund managers, but for regular people like you and me. Those investors with emotional fortitude and the discipline not to quit when the going gets tough will come out ahead in the end.

I comment this movie (3) ★★only.

Pursuit Of Happiness

Hey readers!

Last week to be precise on Sunday, my mother and I make some small gathering with my friends. Suddenly, I came out with this idea and plan out a mini open house just for closest friends only. Yes, friends who came are my closest friends (Muzammin, Hanisa, Ass, Nazwan, Joyce and Lidah)

My mother make a simple meal only which is Nasi Ayam and Macaroni Spaghetti. Seriously, I quite penat on that day. Even though, only six of them but when it comes to preparation and 'melayan' memang penat sangat. Plus that time the assignments keep on spinning on my head.

But, Alhamdulillah they managed to come even it's in Seremban. Their willingness to come down to Seremban, I appreciate it the most. I hope you guys are satisfy with the simple occasion. Thank you.

Devil Movie Review

Hey readers!

Right now I am so happy because I am done with my assignments/presentation for this week. Another good thing is next week I don't have any assignments to be submit. I am so lucky. So now I have my free time to update my blog with few movie reviews. To be truth, I've been watching Devil long time ago. To be exact three weeks ago. For your information Devil are based on a story premise by M. Night Shyamalan (and co-produced by him). It's kinda interesting to watch another thriller movie by him. I'm kinda surprised with people who don't know anything about this movie and maybe because of the promotion. There is no promotion on this movie. I though it could be a brilliant movie plus it's M.Night Shyamalan's. Aren't people will excited to watch his piece of work? Overall I’ll say no more about Devil from a story perspective, so that the film’s secret pleasures can be arrived at fresh. Just don’t go in expecting a brain burning horror movie, or something filled with wailing cgi or demonic iconography. It’s a slight and understated tale for most of the going, ramping up for it’s harrowing moments of gothic terror at unexpected instances.

Devil adalah lakonan unknown Chris Messina, Logan Marshall-Green, Jenny O’Hara, Bojana Novakovic and Bokeem Woodbine. This is about five unfortunate souls who find themselves trapped on an elevator in a Philadelphia skyscraper. Have you read that devil might turn into someone else and pretending to look like a human and we believe it's a human. But actually a devil. I heard about that. 'Syaitan boleh menjelma menjadi manusia'. Something like that. That's the idea of this movie. To be honest I enjoy watching this movie but there was flaws I can see in the movie. Flaws that makes me laugh. The five strangers are Ben, a temp security guard with a violent past; an elderly woman who is a kleptomaniac; Vince, a mattress salesman who moonlights as a con artist; Tony, a former mechanic who served in the U.S. military and Sarah, a blackmailing gold-digger meeting with her lawyer in the building. Everyone has their own bad problems and attitude. So it's look like the god has made their history to gather in one elevator without anyone knows it.

Strange things start to occur beginning with the elevator becoming stuck between floors. Then, after the lights go out, Sarah is inexplicably wounded on her back. The remaining occupants of the elevator quickly begin to suspect Vince of having committed the assault.Slowly, one by one, the five strangers start to die. Their death are strange. It happened within one to three minutes only. Can you imagine that they died when the lights in the elevator turn off for just like few minute, and you realize the people next to you die. So quick. A detective came to solve the five trapped people in the elevator. The funny thing was when the first people died, what the detective do was he slowly tracking who is the murderer among five of them. He tracks each of them past to show the prove who was the killer. The research took time until two of them left and other died. At the same time, the tension among survivor occurs. Sarah and Ben turn on Tony, while Bowden begins to suspect that Sarah's husband has hired Ben to kill her. Each thinking the other must be responsible for the murders, Tony and Sarah prepare to fight each other with broken glass.

Why the detective already call up the fire fighters and asked them to open up the elevator but failed? Why so hard? It took like forever to open the elevator. To be surprise, the devil who transform his look into human was the old woman. Haha. The old woman suddenly rises and appears behind Tony. Having dispensed of the others, the Devil tells Tony it's his turn to die.Tony confesses to killing two people in a drunken hit-and-run accident. At which point the Devil is forced to spare him (as he confessed his sin and apologized for it) and disappears as the firemen finish breaking into the elevator. Like pretty much all horror movies—especially those with a religious basis, which is most of them—this is a morality tale at its heart. An interesting movie to watch.

I comment this movie (3) ★★only.
